The Analysis of The Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports Managers'attitudes to The Sportive Activities of Mentally Disabled Individuals According to Their Professional Self-Esteem Levels

Abstract:

The aim of this research is to investigate the attitudes of mentally retarded individuals according to the occupational self-esteem levels of the administrators of the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports. The sample group of the research, 122 (N) volunteers, 14 (N) female and 108 (N) male, who work as sport managers at the provincial directorates of youth and sports of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, participated in this research. Sports Self-Esteem Scale and Attitude Scale developed by Ar?cak (1999) towards Sportive Activities of Individuals with Mentally Handicapped develeped by ?lhan, Esentürk ve Yar?mkaya (2016) were applied to sport managers. During the evaluation of the collected data, Crombach Alpha Analysis, Shapiro-Wilk Test, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis Test were used. As a result, in sport managers, a significant relationship was found between the self-esteem and gender variable. Male administrators’ belief in the functionality of the profession was higher when compared to female administrators. Sport managers who had trainings related to disabilities showed a higher belief in the functionality of the profession comparing to those who had not taken the trainings. A significant difference was found between the sports managers’ variables, such as working period, whether a disabled person exists in the family, having sports training based on people with disabilities, the graduated school, duties, and mentally retarded individuals’ attitudes towards participating in sports events. The sports managers who have disabled family members perform positive attitude towards mentally retarded individuals’ participating in sports events. The sports managers who had taken trainings based on people with disabilities showed positive attitude towards mentally retarded individuals’ participating in sports events
