HISTORIES ON 18TH CENTURY EVENTS

Writing a poem dedicated to a historic event (histories) has an important place in Ottoman culture. Many events such as war, peace, birth, death, building or restorating historical monuments, years of writing or printing of precious books, appointments and dismissals have been calculated and expressed in poetry as a "year" with a method called “Ebced”. These are under the heading of "histories" in most of the "divans" where the poets of the Divan poets gather their poems and are important materials for the history and literature of the era they belong to. In the Divan literature, 18th century is considered as "poem and poetry century". Because this century is the largest and richest period of classical literature in terms of the poet's staff.
