Abstract:

the purpose of this study was to examine the effect of sensorimotor training, with and without additional sensory information by an infrapatellar strap, in postural control of healthy individuals. thirty healthy individuals participated of this study, divided in three groups: control group (cg), experimental group without additional sensory information (eg), and experimental group with additional sensory information (egi). participants realized a single leg stance task without vision on force plate, in two sensory conditions: 1) normal information condition - without sensory additional information; and 2) additional information condition provided by an infrapatellar strap. from plate force data, the variables were calculated: mean sway amplitude and mean sway velocity of the center of pressure. participants from experimental groups realized ten sessions of sensorimotor training with balance board, with or without additional sensory information, according the determined group. participants from experimental groups showed reduction of mean sway amplitude and mean sway velocity of the center of pressure (p<0.05). furthermore, the results showed difference between experimental groups (p<0.05). in conclusion, sensorimotor training improves the postural control of healthy individuals and these effects are improved with the use of additional sensory information.
