Abstract: the article focuses on a systematization of previous investigations on school inspectors in argentina. our aim is to point out some notes and referencies in order to contribute for a history of inspectors in our country. this analysis involves three central topics related to inspectors task: federal question, relation between state and civil society and a diferentiation between bureaucratic and pedagogical knowledge. moreover, we want to contribute in a existing debate about inspectors 'actions was only a result of application of central policies, control and prescription or its practices had also a significant creative and autonomous character.
